A 61 Years Old Woman Who Urinates Alcohol


The woman who urinates Alcohol.

A 61 years old woman who started urinating alochol due to a condition, never seen or heard before. She was accused of being an alcoholic by some doctors.

This 61 years old woman was put on a waiting list for a liver transplant after suffering from cirrhosis. (A condition synonymous with alcohol abuse)

Doctors discussed and believed that she was hiding her addiction to alcohol when her urine tests for the drug came positive repeatedly. These doctors though that this woman was a secret alcoholic but they had to change their mind and their statement, when the blood tests for metabolites of ethanol came negative.

Further examinations found very high levels of Canidida glabrata, yeast naturally produced by the body, were actually accumulating in her bladder when this woman ingested sugar.

Yeast is smiliar to Saccharomyces cerevisiae. A fungus called brewer`s yeast because it is used by the people who make beer to convert carbohydrates in grains into alcohol. Further, some other tests showed that this conversion process was taking place inside her bladder.

Later, when she wanted to get rid of this yeast infection, she was prescribed oral antifungals. But unfortunately, efforts to eliminate the yeast with these antifungal treatments failed, due to this woman`s poorly controlled diabetes. 

This condition "bladder fermentation syndrome or Urinary auto brewery syndrome is similiar to another incredibly rare condition, auto brewery syndrome. Where ingesting carbohyudrates can be enough to make you inebriated, even without consumingany alcohol.

This was the first known case of a woman who urinates Alcohol.
